A groom who was driving too fast to meet guests and a mother caught with her son standing in her car foot well have been criticised by police.

The 39-year-old bridegroom was caught driving at 107mph on the A947 Aberdeen to Turriff road at the weekend.

Police said that if he had crashed, his guests could have ended up going to his funeral instead.

The 37-year-old woman was reported for carrying her eight-year-old son in a dangerous manner.

There were a total of 162 motorists found to be exceeding the limit on Grampian's roads at the weekend.

To have your child standing, unrestrained, in the passenger foot well of a moving vehicle is absolutely astonishing Sgt Neil MorrisonGrampian Police

Sgt Neil Morrison, of Grampian Police road safety unit, said: "Despite our repeated efforts to highlight the inconsiderate and dangerous driving standards on our roads it seems that certain individuals are determined to ignore our advice and drive at inappropriate speeds.

"This type of behaviour not only puts themselves but other road users at greater risk of injury.

"Incredibly, the motorist recorded at 107mph was a bridegroom en-route to meet his guests prior to his wedding."

Sgt Morrison added: "Had he crashed while travelling at such a high speed I have no doubt his guests would be attending another ceremony - his funeral."

Of the young child being carried in a car while unrestrained, Sgt Morrison said: "I find it hard to believe that any parent would be willing to place their child in circumstances that could potentially result in them being injured.
