Police have warned the public not to approach an escaped prisoner following an "incident" in Edinburgh.

Anthony Robertson, 23, was serving a sentence for an unspecified crime at HMP Castle Huntly in Dundee when he absconded last month.

Lothian and Borders Police said they were keen to trace him following an incident in Edinburgh.

The force could not give details of Wednesday's incident in Craigmillar or of Robertson's connection.

Officers said, however, that members of the public should not approach him.

'Ongoing investigations'

He is described as white, 6ft tall, of medium build and with short dark hair and blue eyes.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who recognises the description of Anthony Robertson or who knows where he might be should not approach him and they should immediately contact police."

He added: "Due to ongoing investigations, any further information released may be prejudicial to the inquiry, and any subsequent court proceedings."

Robertson absconded from Castle Huntly on 21 August. At least six people have escaped from the jail since April this year.
