The plane was bound for Akure in the south-west of the country, a spokesman for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency told AFP. At least five bodies have been recovered and one person is being treated for serious injuries.
The engine failed and it crash-landed and burst into flames, Supo Atobatele was quoted as saying. The Associated Airlines plane was bound for Akure in the south-west of the country.
There was no immediate information on casualties. The engine of the plane appeared to fail and the aircraft plunged to the ground and burst into flames, aviation officials said.
A spokesman for the Nigerian Aviation Ministry said rescue efforts were continuing.
