M5 near Bristol shut for hours by overturned lorry
(about 2 hours later) | |
A lorry carrying pallets of paper struck the central reservation and overturned forced the closure of the M5 motorway.
The crash, between the junctions for Portishead and Clevedon, at about 07:00 BST, led to a diesel spillage on the road.
The driver was taken to Frenchay Hospital with head injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Both carriageways have since been partially reopened.
One northbound and two southbound lanes have reopened past the crash site but long queues are being reported.
Heather Lang from the Highways Agency said there was "still a lot of work to do" as part of the M5 would need to be resurfaced.
She added the agency was "pretty confident" the repair work could be carried out without a further full closure of the motorway.
