City death trial jury deliberates Man murdered and hid his victim
(about 2 hours later)
The jury in the trial of two men charged with an Aberdeen murder has resumed its deliberations. A man has been sentenced to life for murdering an Aberdeen drug dealer in his own home and then hiding his body in a cupboard.
Derek Carswell, 40, and Stephen Rankin, 32, deny murdering Robert Mair, 57, whose body was found in Aberdeen's Kettlehills Crescent in February. A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh found Derek Carswell, 40, guilty of killing 57-year-old Robert Mair.
The jury at the High Court in Edinburgh was sent home for the evening on Wednesday after not reaching a verdict. It resumed on Thursday morning. Carswell, from Ayrshire, was told that he would serve a minimum of 16 years.
Mr Mair's body was found tied up in a cupboard in his house. His co-accused, Stephen Rankin, was found not guilty of the murder in the city's Aberdeen's Kettlehills Crescent in January.
Mr Mair's body was found by Grampian Police officers in February.
