Cookstown stabbings: Man to face murder attempt charge

A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with stabbings in Cookstown, County Tyrone, in the early hours of Saturday.

At about 02:30 BST, a 20-year-old man received a stab wound to his head. An hour later, a man in his 20s suffered multiple stab wounds to his body.

Police believe the stabbings were connected. The man has also been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Seven other men arrested over the incidents have been released on bail.

They were being questioned about a number of offences, including attempted murder, aggravated burglary and grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both injured men were taken to hospital, with one of them discharged a short time later.

The first attack happened in William Street and the second in the area of Milburn Street and the Moneymore Road.

Police have appealed for information.
