The move has been opposed in the past by churches on the staunchly Presbyterian island. Such a move would be fiercely contested by churches and supporters opposed to Sabbath sailings.
But CalMac said it was prepared to ask the Kirk ministers for permission to sail from Ullapool on the Sabbath. The ferry company said it would consult on the matter, which could go before the Scottish Government.
