Two men have been charged with murdering a grandfather whose body was found by a dog walker in Durham.

The body of John Hall, 46, of Shiney Row, Sunderland, was found in West Rainton on 15 September. He had suffered multiple injuries.

Mr Hall's daughters described his murder as "heartbreaking" and said they were in a "living nightmare".

The charged men, aged 45 and 48, are due to appear before magistrates in Sunderland on Saturday, police said.

Two other men, aged 43 and 32, have been bailed pending further enquiries, while a 34-year-old man remains in custody.

Earlier on Friday Mr Hall's two adult daughters, Bethany and Shelby, said in a statement: "This is a living nightmare for us, it is the hardest and most heartbreaking thing that we will ever have to deal with.

"Death is such a terrible thing but murder is something that we will never be able to accept or come to terms with.

"Inside, our dad was a gentle man and would do anything for anyone. No-one, and certainly not our dad, deserved this.

"He was a loving son, brother, dad, grandad and uncle and a true friend to many."
