An Irish police officer has been shot in the chest while working in Dublin's financial district. An Irish police officer has been shot while on traffic patrol in Dublin's financial district.
He was transferred to hospital where his condition is not yet known. The father of two was taken to hospital where his condition is stable.
The traffic officer was shot after stopping two men in a car at Ossory Road, near the Irish Financial Services Centre, at about 0900 BST. He was on duty on a motorbike when he was shot after stopping two men in a car at Ossory Road, near the Irish Financial Services Centre at 0915 BST.
A garda source said the officer was on a bike. He stopped the car and a man got out and fired a shotgun at him, hitting him in the chest. When the garda approached the men in the car, one of them got out and fired a shotgun at him, injuring him in the stomach.
The area surrounding the shooting has been cordoned off. The shooting happened not far from Connolly station in Dublin's north side.
Irish police later found the car which had been abandoned. It is understood the car was stolen and that the owner spotted it and reported it to police.
A search for the two men who were in the car is continuing.
Detectives have recovered the stolen car and a forensic examination will be carried out later.
