Mr Ward said: "Sadly the very public nature of his passing has left many people confused and upset.
"My deepest thoughts are with those who were present during our son's final moments, for whom that tragic day will be etched on their minds.
"Our son was a very loving, generous and gentle little soul, and will always be remembered as such by his friends and family.
"Unfortunately, he was also plagued by disabling levels of anxiety, which ultimately overwhelmed him like a storm tide.
"As a family we must remember him for his life, not his passing."
He added: "He was just a normal lad.
"How sad he just could not feel that way."
