At least four people have been killed in a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, a naval installation in the US capital, a Navy official has said. Personnel at the yard were ordered to "shelter in place" on Monday morning, the Navy said. ABC News has identified a 50-year-old Navy employee whose employment status had "recently changed", as the deceased gunman.
Officials are searching the area surrounding the Navy Yard in south-east Washington DC for two additional suspects in military-style uniform, Ms Lanier said.
She described one as a white male in a tan short-sleeve military-style uniform and beret hat. He was last seen around 08:35 local time carrying a handgun.
A black male, approximately 50 years of age and wearing olive kit, is also being sought.
Washington Mayor Vincent Gray said four people were wounded in the shooting. Ms Lanier said "multiple victims" were deceased.
