Pensioner on family rape charges Pensioner admits family sex crime
(1 day later)
A man in his 70s is to go on trial at Londonderry Crown Court, charged with sex offences against four female relatives dating back 40 years. A 71-year-old man has pleaded guilty to 32 sex offences involving four members of his family which date back 40 years.
The charges include attempted rape, gross indecency and indecent assault. He made the admissions on the opening day of his trial at Londonderry Crown Court on Tuesday.
The offences are alleged to have happened between 1967 and 1978 when all four alleged victims were juveniles. All of the offences happened between January 1967 and December 1978 when his victims were juveniles.
None of those involved in the case can be identified for legal reasons. The defendant denies the charges. The trial begins on Tuesday. The pensioner admitted one charge of attempted rape, two of assault, three of gross indecency with a child and 26 indecent assaults.
It is expected to last for two weeks. None of those involved in the case can be identified for legal reasons.
The man is already serving a prison sentence for sex offences but was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for a second time before being returned to jail.
Judge Corrine Philpot will pass sentence at the end of October after she has read all of the victim impact reports.
