One of Wales' oldest rugby clubs will play its first home game of the season as planned despite a deliberate fire which damaged its main stand.

Maesteg RFC hosts Aberystwyth in Division Two West after the electricity supply was restored to the changing rooms so they could be used.

Police are continuing to investigate last month's blaze which came after a recent refurbishment.

Flames engulfed the stand and the first floor bar in the clubhouse.

"The changing rooms are now up and running and as it would be for a normal match," said club chairman David Morgan.

"We don't have a kitchen or bar but there is a pub down the road who are putting on food for our players and supporters."

Supporters will be able to use the other stand at the ground to watch matches.

Maesteg began the season with a 61-19 defeat last weekend at Skewen.
