Butchered cat left in carrier bag

The body of a dismembered cat has been found dumped in a Tesco carrier bag.

The RSPCA said the ginger and white cat had been butchered, the head, legs and tail were cut off and some internal organs removed in Greater Manchester.

A couple called the animal charity after discovering the dissected male cat next to wheelie bins on Halliford Road, Moston on 13 September.

The RSPCA's Natalie Avery said: "This was a grim find, the cat was in pieces, we need to find out what happened."

She added: "It was an awful thing to be faced with even for someone who does a job like this for a living, it was a truly sickening sight."

The cat, a young adult male was not micro-chipped or neutered and not thought to have been dead long, although a post-mortem examination has yet to be carried out.

Ms Avery said: "It is most important that we establish if this cruelty took place while the animal was still alive.

"Anyone who knows what happened should contact us, as well as anyone who has lost a cat matching this description."
