The Met is at a "very early stage in investigating whether MGN is criminally liable for the alleged unlawful conduct", a Trinity spokeswoman said. Earlier this year the Met said it was looking into hacking allegations relating to the Mirror group.
Trinity said police were at a "very early stage in investigating whether MGN is criminally liable".
A Trinity spokeswoman said the group did "not accept wrongdoing within its business and takes these allegations seriously".
She added: "It is too soon to know how these matters will progress and further updates will be made if there are any significant developments."
