Man dies after Orkney road crash

His car was involved in a collision with another which was carrying two adults and two young children. It happened on the A965, Kirkwall to Stromness road, near Finstown at about 17:00. The four people from the second car were taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall with minor injuries and were later discharged. The man who died was travelling alone. His immediate family have been informed of his death. A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Accident investigators from the divisional roads policing unit in Dingwall are travelling to Orkney to conduct a full collision investigation." A spokeswoman for the fire service said that crews had been called to a road traffic accident involving two cars where they assisted police. The road was closed to all traffic and police said it was likely to remain shut until later on Saturday. Local diversions were in place. Anyone with information about the crash was urged to contact police. |
