Two arrested on immigration march

Two people have been arrested during a protest march in West Sussex against an immigration removal centre being built near Gatwick airport.

About 300 campaigners marched along the main A23 from Crawley to Gatwick, where the 420-bed Brook House detention centre is due to open in 2008.

Sussex Police had 120 officers on duty for the march, organised by the No Borders UK network.

The group is half-way through a six-day protest camp being held at Balcombe.

No Borders opposes all immigration controls and believes "administrative detention" is a violation of human rights.

Crawley Borough Council granted planning permission last November for Brook House, next to the existing 136-bed Tinsley House removal centre.

The Border and Immigration Agency has said Brook House is at the centre of its strategy to remove people with no right to remain in the UK.
