Floods hit towns and close school

Parts of north Wales have been hit by flooding after heavy rain.

Six fire engines were sent to Mill Lane, Beaumaris, and other areas of Anglesey affected includd Menai Bridge, Llanfair PG, Gaerwen and Llangefni.

Ysgol David Hughes at Menai Bridge closed due to the heavy rain. The school lost its electricity supply and there was some flooding on the campus.

Fire chiefs had 35 flood calls in an hour, and other towns hit included Bangor, Rhyl, Prestatyn and Llanfaes.

Ysgol David Hughes was unable to provide meals and buses were being arranged to go to the school to pick up the pupils.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Servive said for most calls advice was given over the phone or an officer was sent out to the scene.

Water levels in Beaumaris went down quickly after the rain.

A handful of houses had water through their doors.

The problem seemed to have been caused by the volume of water and the drains were unable to cope, especially due to falling leaves.
