Police described one person's injuries as serious while the rest were walking wounded. They were taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Two men are being treated at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. A fourteen-year-old boy was released after treatment.
Detectives said they expected to make an arrest soon. Chris Robertson, headteacher at Gourock High, said the school community was in shock at Darren's death.
She described him as one of the most popular boys in third year.
"He was confident, amiable and daring," she said.
'Peer group'
"He had an acute and mature sense of humour which often bubbled to the surface.
"Pupils regularly spoke of his loyalty and friendship and he always tried to look after the safety of younger pupils.
"He was very influential among his peer group."
The headteacher added: "Our hearts go out to his family and friends. He'll be sadly missed."
A counselling service has been set up at the school.
Detectives said they expected to make an arrest and were following a definite line of inquiry.
