Protests worry leaders
The protest in Sittwe was one of the largest since monks first joined cost-of-living protests at the end of last month, says the BBC's Chris Xia.
They demanded the release of four of their fellows arrested during Tuesday's protests, which were violently dispersed by the security forces who fired warning shots and tear gas.
Some of the monks were beaten and several arrested, eyewitnesses say.
On Wednesday, there were at least six other protests staged by monks across Burma, including in Mandalay and Rangoon.
