Man charged with terror offences | |

A 32-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with three offences under the Terrorism Act. | |
Raingzieb Ahmed was held at Heathrow Airport by police after arriving on a flight from Pakistan. | |
Under one charge he was accused of directing the activities of an organisation which was concerned in the commission of acts of terrorism. | |
Mr Ahmed, from Fallowfield, Manchester, appeared before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court. | |
He was also charged with possessing three books containing information which would be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. | |
The first two charges were alleged to have taken place between 22 April, 2004 and 24 August, 2006. | |

The final charge was that Mr Ahmed was in possession of a rucksack containing traces of explosive, in circumstances which suggested it was for a purpose connected with terrorism. | |
This allegedly took place between 1 January 2006 and 24 January 2007. | |
The court heard he no longer had a fixed address in the UK after being held in Pakistan for more than a year. | |
District Judge Timothy Workman remanded Mr Ahmed in custody. He will next appear at the Old Bailey via video link on 5 October. | |
Mr Ahmed, who wore a long-sleeved blue sweater and black trousers, spoke only to confirm his name and age during the five-minute hearing. |
