Seventy-nine people suspected of being involved in the summer riots which swept across Birmingham in 2011 are still being sought by police.

West Midlands Police said 90% of people involved in the riots between 6 and 10 August 2011 had been "identified and dealt with".

They said 775 people had been arrested over the disorder.

The force has posted images of the 79 remaining suspects on its website in a fresh plea for information.

Disturbances began in Birmingham following riots in London which were sparked by the death of Mark Duggan, who was shot dead by police two days earlier in Tottenham.

'Lessons learned'

Assistant Chief Constable Garry Forsyth said: "Even two years on, we have detectives regularly reviewing the information we have about the outstanding suspects and going after them.

"If you were involved and are sat at home thinking you've got away with it, my message is that you haven't."

Speaking about the lessons learned since 2011, Mr Forsyth said the force was in a much better position to deal with rioting if it ever happened again.

He added: "We have understood the issues and made the changes that we needed to in order to deal with any future unrest. We are more organised and can mobilise more quickly."
