The 28-year-old victim was attacked in John Street in Omagh, County Tyrone on Sunday. Darren McBrearty, 28, was attacked in John Street in his home town at about 20:00 BST on Sunday.
Earlier, two men aged 23 and 24 also arrested in connection with the assault were released on police bail pending further enquiries. He had been on a life support machine since the assault but died in hospital on Tuesday.
