The toddler, from Rawmarsh, Rotherham, has not been named. She was taken to Rotherham General Hospital on Tuesday morning with head and leg injuries. She was later transferred to Sheffield Children's Hospital, where she was in a stable condition, police said. The dog, which is believed to be a family pet, was taken to a secure kennel facility. A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the girl was with an adult female relative and the dog was on a lead when she was bitten. The incident comes as the government launches a consultation on new proposals to enable prosecutions to be brought against anyone whose dog injures a person. |
