A couple and their young child had to be rescued after a car crashed into their house on Teesside.

The couple, in their 20s, and the child were rescued from a first floor bedroom after the incident in Crimdon Walk, Stockton, early on Saturday.

They were unable to get out after an Audi car crashed into the front of the property, blocking off the stairs.

Police said a man was being held on suspicion of drink-driving and aggravated vehicle taking.

No-one else was injured.

Structural repairs to the semi-detached house are under way.
