Serious car collision closes Largs road Largs car crash: one pedestrian dead and another 'critical'

Police are dealing with a car collision, thought to involve two pedestrians, in Largs, North Ayrshire. An 87-year-old man has died and his 84-year-old wife has been critically injured after being hit by a car in Largs, North Ayrshire.
The A78 Greenock Road, which runs along the beach front, has been closed near to the junction with Nelson Street. The couple had been crossing the A78 Greenock Road at about 9:15 when they were struck by a red Toyota car.
Police Scotland said the accident happened at about 9:15, and the road is expected to remain shut for sometime. The man died at the scene. The woman was taken by air ambulance to the Southern General.
Emergency services are in attendance, including an air ambulance. The 34-year-old female driver of the car was not injured, but she was taken to Inverclyde Hospital as a precaution.
The Greenock Road between Nelson Street and Brisbane Road is expected to remain shut for sometime.
Police have appealed for witnesses.
