The couple had been crossing the A78 Greenock Road at about 9:15 when they were struck by a red Toyota car. | |
The man died at the scene. The woman was taken by air ambulance to the Southern General. | |
The 34-year-old female driver of the car was not injured, but she was taken to Inverclyde Hospital as a precaution. | |
The Greenock Road between Nelson Street and Brisbane Road is expected to remain shut for sometime. | |
Police have appealed for witnesses. |
