Police and firefighters are at the scene in Howick Terrace, Berwick-upon-Tweed, and 60 people have been ordered to leave their homes as a precaution. It is not believed that anyone was in the house at the time of the explosion at 17:50 BST. No-one was injured in the incident and people were allowed back into properties several hours later.
Police said there were no reports of injuries and gas engineers were at the scene. Police and firefighters have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire, which badly damaged one property.
