A man's body has been found in the Thames after searches near a south west London sailing club, Surrey Police have said.

Officers earlier said a man had been seen entering the river and police had gone to the area near Hampton Sailing Club on Benn's Island.

Emergency teams were called just after 18:45 BST after concerns were raised for the man's safety, police said.

Police later confirmed a man's body had been found.

The man who died has not yet been identified and officers are trying to trace his next-of-kin.

Police said the death at this stage was being treated as unexplained.

On Thursday evening, the force also tweeted a warning to the public to remember the potential dangers of open water, and urged them to take extra care during the warm weather.

Officers had also been dealing with an incident in the Guildford area where two men had been seen in the river, police said.
