It happened in the Rathfriland Road area of Castlewellan on Tuesday. The ambulance service was called to the Rathfriland Road area shortly before 14:30 BST on Tuesday.
No details have been released about what happened and the boy's name has not been released. It is understood the boy had fallen off a farm vehicle. He was airlifted to Craigavon Area Hospital but could not be saved.
