A post-mortem examination is due to take place on the body of a man who died after a hotel fire in Blackpool.

The fire broke out in the basement of the Manor Hotel on the central promenade in the early hours of the morning on Monday.

An investigation team is hoping to get into the building on Tuesday afternoon, after it has been made safe, to look into the cause of the fire.

The man was rescued from his room but died later in hospital.

Five residents were inside the hotel at the time of the fire.

The man was trapped in his room on the second floor.

He was rescued by firefighters but later died in hospital after suffering a heart attack.

The fire also affected the neighbouring Waverley Hotel, which was also evacuated.

Twelve fire engines were called to the scene and, at its height, about 100 firefighters were tackling the blaze.

They were forced to get out of the building after part of it collapsed.

Sixty people were evacuated from neighbouring hotels and taken to safety in a nearby leisure centre.
