Water was still pouring down the street and through at least one house on Tuesday morning. Total rainfall in the area on Monday was more than half the monthly average for July, Calderdale Council said.

Most of the damage to properties was caused by sewage, flood water and silt in cellars and the ground floors of homes, the council said.

Railway lines were submerged and Walsden railway station was closed for several hours as maintenance crews repaired the tracks. Becky Morville, who is six months pregnant, said she vainly attempted to hold back the tide as the ground floor of her home was engulfed.
Train services via Walsden have now restarted but will be subject to speed restrictions through the area affected by the flooding, Northern Rail said. "It was really scary. I had to push my back against the door with my feet on the stairs just so the door wouldn't come through.
"But then it all started to come up through the front room and through the skirting boards into the kitchen."
During the flooding, railway lines were submerged and Walsden railway station was closed for several hours as maintenance crews repaired the tracks.
Train services via Walsden have since restarted but will be subject to speed restrictions through the area affected by the flooding, Northern Rail said.
Flood alerts for Todmorden and Walsden have been lifted but residents should monitor local forecasts, the Environment Agency said.
Teams are working to prevent any further flooding by clearing debris from streams and unblocking culverts, a spokesman added.
