The families of the two friends from Londonderry who were involved in a plane crash in Thailand are expected to arrive in the country later. One of two Londonderry men who were on board a plane which crashed in Thailand on Sunday is sitting up and talking.
Tributes have been paid to 22-year-old Aaron Toland who died in the crash at Phuket airport. The Irish Consul in Bangkok, Helene Fallon Wood, has visited Christopher Cooley in hospital.
His friend Christopher Cooley is critically ill. The pair had been planning to spend a year in Australia. Mr Cooley's friend Aaron Toland, 22, died in the crash at Phuket airport, which killed at least 89 people.
Air crash investigators are reported to be trying to find out whether pilot error caused Sunday's crash. "He (Christopher) certainly has improved considerably since yesterday," said Ms Fallon Wood.
A third man, Ashley Harrow from Moira, County Down, survived Sunday's crash and is said to be recovering well. "I explained to him that some of his family were on the way and he's very delighted that he'll be able to see them."
Derry priest Father Michael Canny said the two families were absolutely devastated. Members of the Toland family are also on their way to Phuket.
"They just can't believe that the boys left full of hope and enthusiasm and exuberance on Thursday," Fr Canny said. The two friends had been on their way to Australia, where they intended to stay for a year.
