Foreign students in Scotland bring £127.9m to the country's economy each year in tuition fees alone, a report has found.

The figures were revealed by the British Council, the UK's international body for cultural relations.

Across Britain, international students bring more than £6bn into the country, up nearly 40% in the past three years.

London, the South East and the north west of England all brought more in fees from overseas than Scotland.

The organisation believes the figures show a change in our education system from one that serves primarily the home market to one that operates on a truly international basis.
