James Baillie's death in hospital leads to Hamilton murder inquiry

Police had been investigating an attempted murder on James Baillie, from Hamilton, and a serious assault on his 64-year-old mother. However, Mr Baillie died in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, on Friday. A Police Scotland spokesman said his death was now being treated as murder. His mother was released from hospital after treatment. The pair were attacked following a row with a number of other people in Buchanan Crescent, Hamilton, at 21:00 on Tuesday. Mr Baillie received a serious head injury while his mother had serious injuries to her arm, head and face. It has also emerged that Mr Baillie, who lived in Buchanan Crescent, was assaulted earlier in the evening. Police said the attack on him took place following another disturbance in Buchanan Crescent. |
