A man accused of attempting to rob two London banks, one of them with an AK 47-style weapon, is due in court later. A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to rob two London banks, one of them with an AK 47-style weapon.
Following the second raid on a Barclays branch, members of the public helped capture a man when he ran through a pub courtyard pursued by security staff. Al-Fodday Fofanah, 30, is accused of trying to rob Santander and Barclays banks in south east London and possession of an imitation firearm.
Police said 30-year-old Al-Fodday Fofanah is accused of attempted robbery at branches of Santander and Barclays. Appearing at Camberwell Magistrates' Court on Saturday Fofanah spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.
He also faces two charges of possessing an imitation firearm and will appear at Camberwell Magistrates' Court later. He was remanded in custody for a hearing on 6 August.
No injuries His trial will be heard at Woolwich Crown Court.

ITV news journalist Darren Burn was in the George pub when "we heard tyres screech, then saw a man with a gun".
"Bank security were shouting, they were telling us the man had a gun and we needed to get down."
No shots were fired and nobody was injured, the Metropolitan Police said.
A spokesman later praised the bravery of members of the public who had helped detain a man.
