Fire crews battle warehouse blaze Homes evacuated near major fire
(about 16 hours later)
More than 60 firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a warehouse in the Gatehouse industrial area of Aylesbury. A major fire has gutted a warehouse in Buckinghamshire and 30 people living nearby were moved from their homes.
Buckinghamshire Fire Service confirmed around 10 fire engines were at the scene and propane gas cylinders are believed to be inside the warehouse. More than 70 firefighters tackled the blaze at RR Donnelly in Gatehouse Road in Aylesbury on Saturday afternoon.
Crews are fighting the fire from outside amid concerns the cylinders could explode, a spokesman said. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue said 12 appliances and specialist crews were called in to stop flames spreading.
There are no reports of anyone inside. Part of a nearby ringroad has been closed by police. Spokesman Frazer Pearson said at its peak, the smoke plume could be seen 15 miles away. Fire crews were still at the scene on Sunday damping down.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin once the site has been made safe.
Firefighters were hampered when the blaze first broke out because propane gas cylinders were believed to be inside the warehouse.
They fought the flames from outside the building because of concerns the cylinders could explode.
