A man has died in hospital after he fell into a river near Wrexham. A 21-year-old man has died after reportedly falling into a river near Wrexham.
He was pulled from the water east of Chirk nearly an hour after the alert was raised at 18:55 BST on Tuesday. Emergency services were called to an area close to the spot where the River Ceiriog meets the River Dee east of Chirk at 18:55 BST on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old was airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury hospital in a serious condition but was later pronounced dead. It followed reports that the man, thought to be from Shropshire, fell into the water and failed to surface.
Police believe he fell into the water at the junction between the rivers Dee and Ceiriog at Pont Llygoden. An hour later he was found and airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
