Thousands ride for shot biker
(1 day later) | |
Thousands of bikers have ridden through the streets of London to mark the funeral of a fellow rider shot in the head on the M40.
Police estimate up to 3,000 bikers had gathered for the funeral of Gerry Tobin, from Mottingham, south-east London, who was killed in August.
The procession followed a 13-mile route from Bethnal Green, east London to Mortlake, south-west London.
Three men have been charged with Mr Tobin's murder.
Road closed | |
Police warned that roads were being closed on an ad hoc basis because of the sheer numbers of bikers.
Speaking from the scene BBC London's Esther Stanhope said: "There are literally thousands of people from all around.
"They've all got their badges on their leather jackets, some from Holland and other parts of Europe."
The funeral cortege went from east London down Victoria Embankment, Westminster Bridge, Putney Bridge and the Hammersmith flyover before arriving at Mortlake Crematorium.
Simon Turner, 40, Dane Garside, 41, and Sean Creighton, 43, are all charged with Mr Tobin's murder.
Mr Turner, of Vernons Lane, Stockingford, Nuneaton, Warwickshire; Mr Garside of Silverdale Close, Alderman's Green, Coventry; and Mr Creighton of Doncaster Close, Coventry, are also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. |
