France: Protest at Nuclear Plant
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/16/world/europe/france-protest-at-nuclear-plant.html Version 0 of 1. Greenpeace activists occupied a French nuclear power plant site before dawn on Monday — a media stunt that embarrassed the government, which is intent on demonstrating that France’s reliance on nuclear power is safe. About 30 activists from the environmental group invaded Électricité de France’s Tricastin power plant complex in southern France. They projected an image of a giant crack forming across the building’s facade. France’s nuclear safety authority said in a statement that the intrusion had no impact on the plant’s safety. All of the activists were arrested, Greenpeace France said on its Web site. Reactors produce about 80 percent of France’s electricity. |
