Doug Holden, manager of Elliotts, was unaware of the incident until he was informed by the police.
He said: "The thief had been siphoning diesel from our tank over the fence.
"There was a lot of blood - he was obviously bleeding pretty badly.
"We have signs up saying 'beware of the razor wire'.
"Someone also broke in from the rear of the yard on Sunday and stole £300 to £400 worth of tools from the foreman's office.
"We blocked that area off so maybe that's why he tried the fence."
