The British government is looking at ways to make the Scottish base that contains Trident a part of sovereign United Kingdom territory if Scotland votes for independence in next year's referendum. Relocating Trident could cost up to £20bn and it could take decades to build suitable accommodation so, unsurprisingly, the UK government are not keen to lose the Faslane base near the Clyde.
