A former Progressive Unionist Party election candidate has been charged with stealing more than £23,000 from community groups in Castlederg.

Roy Reid stood as a candidate in West Tyrone in the 2003 Assembly elections.

He faces seven charges of stealing money from Castlederg Youth Forum and the Mournederg Partnership.

Strabane Magistrates Court also heard three charges of forging a signature on cheques against Mr Reid, who was released on bail.

The case has been adjourned for six weeks.
