A body found in the River Severn in Worcester is believed to be that of a missing man, police have said.

The body was discovered by a rower at 09:45 BST on Saturday near Worcester Rowing Club in Grandstand Road.

West Mercia Police said formal identification had not yet taken place but the body was believed to be that of 37-year-old Stuart Pickup.

Mr Pickup, from Himbleton, was reported missing on Tuesday after failing to turn up for work.

Det Sgt Dave Hall said: "Mr Pickup's family have been informed of this development and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

He said the death was currently being treated as "unexplained".

The police said they were still looking for Mr Pickup's car, a black BMW Z4.
