A driver has been killed and another man is fighting for his life after two separate road accidents in West Lothian.

The motorist died after his Toyota Corolla car crossed the central reservation of a dual carriageway and hit a lamppost in Livingston.

The crash happened at about 0330 BST near Lizzie Brice's roundabout.

Another man was critically injured nearby as he tried to cross a road at about 2220 BST on Saturday.

Emergency services found the driver of the car trapped in the vehicle on the A899 and firefighters used cutting equipment to free him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other man was hit by a blue Citroen Saxo car on the A71 at Bellsquarry, close to the Wilderness roundabout.

The man was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he was described as being in a critical condition with head and internal injuries.

Officers from Lothian and Borders Police have appealed for witnesses to both incidents.
