Bob Dylan to visit the UK for nine November shows Bob Dylan to visit the UK for nine November shows
(4 months later)
Bob Dylan is to return to the UK for nine shows in November, including what appear to be his first performances at the Royal Albert Hall since his controversial 1966 tour. He and his bands will play three shows each at Glasgow's Clyde Auditorium, Blackpool Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall in London. The Blackpool shows are believed to mark Dylan's first visit to the Lancashire seaside resort, and were hailed by the venue's manager, David Gore, as "a great honour and a huge vote of confidence".Bob Dylan is to return to the UK for nine shows in November, including what appear to be his first performances at the Royal Albert Hall since his controversial 1966 tour. Dylan's 1966 show at the Albert Hall passed into rock legend for an event that didn't even happen there. When he was onstage at the Manchester Free Trade Hall on 17 May 1966, a folk fan – furious at Dylan's embrace of electric rock'n'roll – shouted "Judas!" at the singer, who responded by instructing his band to "play it fucking loud" as they went into Like a Rolling Stone.Dylan's 1966 show at the Albert Hall passed into rock legend for an event that didn't even happen there. The show was widely bootlegged and listed as having taken place at the Albert Hall. So familiar did the attribution become that when a recording of the show was officially released as part of Dylan's Bootleg Series in 1998, it was described on the sleeve as 'The "Royal Albert Hall" concert'.The show was widely bootlegged and listed as having taken place at the Albert Hall. The latest shows continue an frenetic round of activity for the legendary singer and songwriter. And while he is honouring Blackpool, it's possible he may soon pick up some honours of his own – earlier this month he was cleared to receive France's highest distinction, the Légion d'honneur, by the council that awards it. He had previously been blocked for nomination because of his use of marijuana and opposition to the Vietnam war. Last year he was awarded the Presidential medal of freedom by Barack Obama, donning sunglasses for his meeting with the US head of state. The latest shows continue an frenetic round of activity for the legendary singer and songwriter.
