More than 90 Saudi detainees have now been sent home from the camp in Cuba. Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz said he hoped this would lead to the release of the remaining Saudis - believed to number 37. About 340 detainees are being held in Guantanamo on suspicion of links to terrorism. Many have been there several years, but most have not been charged. Two of the three inmates who committed suicide in the detention camp in June 2006 were from Saudi Arabia. Washington is reducing the number of prisoners at the centre with a view to eventually closing it down. |
