'Fears' over additives writ large

Version 0 of 1.

Dire warnings about the effects of food additives on children feature on several front pages.

The Daily Mail says official research has "confirmed parents' fears" that chemicals in food make youngsters "behave badly".

The study provides "impressive proof" that additives are linked to hyperactivity, according to the Times.

And the Guardian tells parents to check labels carefully on drinks, sweets and cakes before giving them to children.

'New 9/11'

Also in the news is the arrest of three men in Germany on suspicion of plotting a "massive" terrorist attack.

"New 9/11 foiled" is the way the Sun reports the story.

The Daily Telegraph says the planned attack could have been more devastating than both the Madrid train bombings and the 7 July blasts in London.

And the Daily Mail claims there was a "UK link" to the plot, reporting that the men made several calls to British numbers as they planned their "massacre".

'In the dark'

The Daily Mirror is one of several papers claiming to know of developments in the Madeleine McCann case.

It says the DNA of a possible new suspect has been found among samples taken from the family's holiday apartment.

The Daily Express, meanwhile, says the test results are expected to show that Madeline died in the room where she was staying in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

And the Daily Star says Madeleine's parents are angry at being "kept in the dark" about developments in the case.

Camera capers

Pictures of meerkats climbing on some camera equipment at Longleat Safari Park provide light relief.

"The inquisitive animals soon discovered how to fire the shutter," the Times reports.

The resulting images are "excellent" and "beautifully framed", says the Daily Mirror's picture editor.

But the hard-to-please Daily Telegraph insists the photographs taken by alpha-male Monty are "badly composed" and out of focus.
