Ade Robinson, from South Yorkshire Fire Service, said a specialist urban search and rescue team were working to remove rubble from the property. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire Service said specially-trained rescue dogs had completed a search of the property and found no signs of anybody being trapped in the rubble.
He said: "What we are concerned with now is a situation where there possibly may be someone still in that property. Demolition work has now begun at the property.
"We can't confirm that at this time, that's why we're taking the precaution."
