At the University of Oklahoma medical centre, which treated more than 90 patients including 51 children, about six people remained in critical condition on Tuesday morning. "There's just sticks and bricks basically," she said after an aerial tour of the disaster zone. "It's hard to tell if there was a structure there or not."
Some patients suffered open wounds, while others were impaled by debris or sustained fractures, Medical Director Roxy Albrecht said. About 237 people were treated in hospitals, and mental health facilities will be set up in the affected area, Gov Fallin said.
Much of the rescue effort was concentrated on what remains of Plaza Towers Elementary School, which took a direct hit.
Dozens of firefighters could be seen at the building, where the roof and walls had been knocked down.
Another school - Briarwood Elementary - was also damaged, and teachers were later seen leading pupils out to safety.
