Man dies after 'triple murder bid' Hove shooting | |

A 31-year-old man has died in hospital after a gunman apparently tried to shoot three people dead. | |
A murder inquiry was started by Sussex Police after the man from Kent was fatally wounded in Church Street, Hove, at 23:30 BST on Saturday. | |
Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was then taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, but he died in the early hours. | |
Police have described the attack as horrific. | |
They are treating it as a murder and two attempted murders. | |
The force believes it was an "isolated incident" and that the killer had fled the area. | |
'Upsetting and disturbing' | |
Supt Simon Nelson "Witnesses saw a horrific and tragic incident. | |
"A group of three men were shot at with what is believed to be a handgun and one of them was tragically killed. | |
"This is not gang-related and as far as I am aware not linked to any other crime. | |
"I am confident that there is very low risk to the community, although I understand that this has been very upsetting and disturbing for everyone, especially those who were in the area at the time." | |
He said neighbourhood officers were in the area to assist the Surrey and Sussex major crime team investigation and to speak to people who are worried. | |
Ch Insp Helen West said police were "actively seeking the offender" using a number of police units and dogs. | |
Church Road, between First Avenue and Selborne Road, has been cordoned off since Saturday night to allow forensic experts to examine the scene. |
